Some island houses.

A farm shed the island had many houses, fortifications and buildings dating for the use of the island as a naval base by the British navy. Many prisoners were interned on the island by the British during the War of Independence. The base was handed over to the Irish governnment in 1938 and the fortifications are largely in ruins.
