Betelgeuse
In 1979 the French oil tanker "Betelgeuse" blew up at the Whiddy oil terminal. In the explosion and fire 50 people (42 French, 7 Irish and one English) lost their lives. Later in the year a Dutch salvage diver also lost his life.
